Several years ago, the Volunteer Program established an annual Good Neighbor Award to recognize individuals or groups from all over San Rafael with Resolutions of Appreciation to recognize their outstanding efforts on behalf of the City. Typically, these honorees are contributing a service of some kind on a voluntary basis and receive no financial reward. This year, at the City Council meeting on June 16, the following recipients receiving Council recognition were:
Libby McQuiston, an active and vital participant with the San Rafael Clean Coalition since its inception in 2005, has participated in all the City cleanups, has distributed thousands of cigarette butt containers throughout the community and is tireless in her campaign against litter.
John Hansen, a core instructor for three years in the City’s Community Emergency Response Team (CERT), has not only created innovative and interesting class curriculum for CERT students but has taken his message of disaster preparedness beyond CERT by becoming involved with several other key disaster groups throughout the County.
Jack Brandon, an instructor for three years with the CERT program, has led the teaching of the Disaster Medical Operations modules, has developed portions of its curriculum, and has been proactive with the City of San Rafael.
Canal Boy Scout Troop 2000, under the direction of Willy Coronado, has participated in numerous cleanups throughout the City, assists the Santa Cop program each year, has helped with disaster preparation activities and been involved in the annual Earth Day event.
