SPOTLITE ON… Jeff Hvid
In the past three years,
Jeff Hvid, a San Anselmo resident, has organized
over 130 cleanups, resulting in several TONS of
garbage being removed from the beaches and open
spaces of Marin County. About one-third of the
debris that Jeff finds is recycable, which he
sometimes turns into unique and whimsical art
pieces.
Always on the alert for
litter, Jeff often walks the trails in the open
spaces of Marin where he finds and collects
trash left on the side of the road. Many of his
cleanups occur at Point Reyes where, since the
area dump was closed years ago, people have
taken to using the nearby cliffs as a dumping
ground for mattresses, car engines, water
heaters, camper shells, tires, tools and an
assortment of other articles that blight the
beauty of the area. In addition, Jeff cleans up
beach areas in San Rafael that many people don’t
even know about – but that get littered up
significantly due to wind and surf patterns as
well as illegal dumpers and litterbugs.
San Rafael salutes Jeff
Vidd for his cleanup and recycling efforts, his
attention to our environment and his creative
spirit! |
