SPOTLITE ON....
Shirley Fischer
| Shirley Fischer co-founded the North
San Rafael Coalition of Residents in
1988 and was a leader of this coalition
of northern San Rafael homeowner groups
for over 15 years. During this
time she provided a community voice in
evaluating dozens of plans for new
development and for transportation
changes, attending hundreds of meetings
and tenaciously seeking to maintain and
improve the quality of life in the
northern San Rafael community. She
also facilitated the participation of
residents in local government in many
ways. In 1990, Shirley coordinated
a community traffic study that persuaded
the San Rafael City Council to create a
safer design for the Freitas Parkway.

| In 1995, she was a major impetus
behind the creation of the North San
Rafael Vision neighborhood plan, and
over the next seven years she served on
the North San Rafael Vision Steering
Committee, the Vision in Action
Committee, and the North San Rafael
Promenade design committee.
Shirley has also been active as a
volunteer at Vallecito School, the Marin
County Fair, the Terra Linda Community
Garden, and numerous clean up days. She
is currently a volunteer with the San
Rafael Clean Campaign. |
